Our mission is to save lives.

During times of crisis, there’s an opportunity for transformation. New Mexico Crisis Counseling understands this period of vulnerability as a potential turning point when individuals are particularly receptive to positive change. Our primary mission is to provide therapeutic intervention during this crucial juncture to significantly mitigate the risk of severe functional decline and adverse outcomes, including suicide.

Within 24 business hours of referral, we make contact with the client and schedule a comprehensive therapeutic assessment. Using evidence-based treatments like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality, we develop strategies to mitigate risks while initiating suicide-specific therapy and skills training.

Clinical Director Gayle Porter, LPCC

Gayle spent 12 years working in New Mexico law enforcement agencies as a patrol officer, detective, and field training officer. After receiving specialized training in Crisis Intervention, Gayle was inspired to pursue a Master’s Degree in Psychology. In 2014, she became a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and began a second career with the New Mexico Crisis and Access Line and National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, where she was a Clinical Supervisor. Gayle’s brother and father both died by suicide after experiencing acute mental health crises. One had just been released from the hospital, and the other was waiting for a referral to start therapy.
